Marbled Brownies


Yield: 24 servings

Ingredients :
1/2 c Flour
1/2 t Baking powder
1/4 t Salt
4 oz Unsweetened chocolate
3 T Unsalted butter
2 Eggs
3/4 c Sugar
1 t Vanilla
3/4 c Coarsely chopped walnuts
4 oz Cream cheese
2 T Unsalted butter
1/2 t Vanilla
1/4 c Sugar
1 Egg

Method :
  1. Butter a 9″ square pan.
  2. Sift together the flour, baking powder and salt.
  3. Set aside.
  4. Melt the chocolate with the butter.
  5. Remove from heat and let cool slightly.
  6. Beat the 2 eggs until foamy.
  7. Add the 3/4 cup sugar and 1 teaspoon vanilla.
  8. Continue beating until light lemon-colored.
  9. Beat in the chocolate mixture and then the dry ingredients.
  10. Mix well.
  11. Set aside 3/4 cup of the mixture.
  12. To the remainder, stir in 1/2 cup of the nuts.
  13. Spread this mixture into the prepared pan.
  14. Preheat oven to 350'F.
  15. Beat the cream cheese with the butter until smooth.
  16. Add the 1/2 teaspoon vanilla and 1/4 cup sugar and beat until fluffy.
  17. Beat in the 1 egg.
  18. Spread cheese mixture over the chocolate layer.
  19. Place heaping tablespoons of the reserved 3/4 cup chocolate mixture over the cheese, forming 8 or 9 mounds.
  20. With a small spatula of knife, cut through the mounds in a zigzag layer, going almost but not quite through the bottom.
  21. Sprinkle with the remaining 1/4 cup nuts.
  22. Bake for 35 minutes.
  23. Let stand at room temperature for a few hours before cutting.
